Because of health concerns with COVID-19, both of our facilities–the Museum and Research Library–are closed at this time and until further notice. Additionally, all activities and events held within our buildings at 205 S. College Street and 117 West Avenue are cancelled throughout the months of March, April and May. We will assess the situation in the coming weeks to determine whether our outdoor cemetery tours can commence this season. In the meantime, follow us on social media where we will be sharing local history in the form of photos, stories and reminiscences.

In July of 2018, the Polk County Historical Society’s Museum moved from the Hawkes Children’s Library building on S. College Street to a larger and more accessible building at 117 West Avenue. The Hawkes building is now an event space (top floor/garden) and a Genealogical Research Library (basement). Our new building includes a spacious showroom with three themed side rooms, such as our wonderful Sterling Holloway exhibit. Both locations are open Thursdays – Saturdays.
