In July of 2018, the Polk County Historical Society’s Museum moved from the Hawkes Children’s Library building on S. College Street to a larger and more accessible building at 117 West Avenue. The Hawkes building is now an event space (top floor/garden) and a Genealogical Research Library (basement). Our new building includes a spacious showroom with four themed side rooms, such as our wonderful Sterling Holloway exhibit. Both locations are open on Thursdays, and the museum is also open Fridays and Saturdays.

On this #GivingTuesday the Polk County Historical On this #GivingTuesday the Polk County Historical Society would like to extend our thanks to the many people from Cedartown, Rockmart, Aragon, Taylorsville and all of the historic communities for the many documents, maps, photos, books, periodicals and genealogical information that has been donated over the years. Because of these donations, we are able to assist anyone interested in researching with a wide range of materials pertaining to Polk County. As many of you know, our research library is moving to our museum building on the second floor by the end of 2023, and we are in need of additional storage units and archival materials for this expansion. If you’re inclined to donate on this Giving Tuesday or at any time, our information can be found here: https://polkhist.com/donate - We appreciate and are very thankful for our donors and volunteers!
