The Polk County Historical Society was established in 1974 in the Hawkes Children’s Library building in Cedartown. Over the years it has grown its collection to more than 4,000 acquisitions, including invaluable records in the genealogical research library. In 2018 the museum moved to the old Liberty National Bank building on West Avenue, expanding its space to two floors with handicap accessibility. Today the organization has more than 250 dues paying members and is very active in the community, hosting events and taking part in festivals and activities. The PCHS vision is to preserve history, instill a sense of nostalgic pride in the community, and inspire the younger generations to take a keen interest in their heritage.
