A Booz Hotel Gentleman Looking forward to Love or Food?

In 1890, a traveling salesman, Mr. Connelly, wrote to his beloved Ella during his stay at Cedartown’s own Booz Hotel, run by Proprietress Mrs. M. A. Booz. Apparently the newly engaged gentleman missed his sweetheart very much, as he begins with:

“I just arrived here and would rather spend the evening in writing to you than anything else.” He goes further in saying, “…I sincerely hope and pray that nothing will prevent us carrying out our intentions.”

You’re thinking Mr. Connelly is quite the romantic, yes? Well, here’s the very next sentence:

“Now don’t work to(sic) hard this summer or you may get sick, and I would be very much disappointed if I thought I had to continue to eat boarding house hash all this fall.”

Full Stop

Yet, he goes on…

“I have pictured in my mind that I will be the happiest man on earth when we marry and go to keeping house and have what we want to eat for I can say truthfully that I have not enjoyed a meal for months.”

“The old saying is that no one can get a meal to suit a man but his wife and I think I am going to get the best little woman on earth (in October). You know it it is not my nature to flatter so don’t take this so for I mean and believe every word of it.”

Next a bit of fluff about happiness and then some work and travel details. Now some chores for wife-to-be:

“I wish you would please tell Charley to go by the room and get my straw hat and bleach it this week, for I will not get any more clothes than I can help until fall and very few then.”

Ending with, “Be ready for a drive on Sunday.”

Did this couple ultimately marry and live happily ever after? It would appear that they indeed did, and had 3 daughters.
