Calvin Ledell Janes: “Work Hard and Be Patient”

Calvin Ledell Janes was born in Cedartown, Georgia to Charlie T. Janes and Mrs. Sarah Woodall Janes. He attended Cedar Hill High School and graduated with honors. He enrolled at Tuskegee Institute and while there participated in the ROTC. When he graduated from college, he was commissioned as an officer. He then joined the United States Air Force where he taught classes and trained many pilots. He went back to school and received dual masters degrees, during which time he was promoted to Captain. After he was discharged from the Air Force, he became a pilot for the Federal Express. He worked in management, interviewing and hiring pilots for the company. He also piloted jets all over the world. Calvin has always said it was not easy but with hard work and determination, one can accomplish their goals.

Calvin served as President of the Tuskegee Airmen Chapter in his area, working with many organizations and presiding over auxiliaries. He has worked as a motivational speaker. He enjoys going into the schools and speaking to the children to let them know that one has to set goals and not give up, no matter how hard it might get or how long it might take. “Work hard and be patient!”
